Book Series and Enrichment Activities

Currently, author Jacqueline James is writing a series of 25 biographies, Friends of Martin Luther King, Jr.  These biographies are being written to teach students about the people who worked with and were Friends of Martin Luther King, Jr.  They are illustrated by LaMeek Wilson. The first four books in the series are now available.

Each book puts in perspective the friends role BEFORE, WITH, and AFTER their involvement with Martin Luther King Jr.  Also, at the end of each book you will also find a list of new terms the reader will find used throughout the book.

To supplement each book, a separate Study Guide/Enrichment packet is available to further the learning experience of young readers. They are created to enrich the information that is learned in the books. These activities included are cross curricular and incorporate:

  • Language Arts
  • Math
  • Science
  • History
  • Geography
  • Social Studies
  • Organizational Skills
  • Critical Thinking Skills
  • Information Literacy Skills
  • As well as Intrapersonal and Interpersonal Skills

Many of the activities included are aligned with the Common Core Standards which have been adopted by forty-six states and the Washington DC schools.

The tasks are designed so that students can complete them orally, in writing/drawing, and technologically.
